A truly deep, dark, dense read that absorbs you into the story. One should be in the right headspace before reading this book because it can disturb you. The paragraphs can be so long and descriptive while character names can get confusing so it’s best to write down their full names with context to who they are for a quick reference while reading. This gave me the chills multiple times through the book.

I knew I was getting myself into an incredible classic murder mystery from the perspective of the murderer, but never did I expect I would be taken into a philosophical and emotional rabbit hole that I’m afraid I’ll never fully escape from. The characters are well crafted and the social commentary was intense. The best way to read this novel is slowly, thoroughly letting yourself enjoy every chapter. This might be the oldest novel to ever make me cry

It took me a little over two weeks to get through it, but I'm finally done with Crime and Punishment. I really enjoyed it, and it's one of the classics I'm now glad to be familiar with. It definitely drags on in parts and I don't understand all of the intricacies of Russian society, particularly in the 19th century. But I enjoyed the story and the themes of grief, guilt, and identity within it.
