(Kinda) liked the first 3/4 of the book.
But it seemed like the author did a therapy exercise where you write out an incident that occurred, but then change the ending. How his mother acted at the end TOTALLY contradicted the rest of the book. She was WAY too narcissistic, controlling, and manipulative to suddenly turn around and act like she cared about his wants and feelings. All she cared about was herself, her wants/needs, and her image. Completely unrealistic that she not only basically immediately accepted him as he is, she joined therapy and reached out to Carlos to get them back together. I don’t think they could’ve made the mom any more unlikable other than finding out she kills cats or something.

Carlos is a piece of work too. Had a lot of mood swings. He also apparently didn’t listen to his own words. One minute he’s telling Ved he understands that Ved wasn’t out to his parents and that it was illegal to be gay, and the next he’s throwing a fit that Ved wanted him out of the house and complains that no one has ever made him leave without giving him coffee and/or breakfast first 🙄 He also kept acting like they were in a relationship for ages, when in reality not only were they not official, they only knew each other for like 2 weeks (although I was shocked with how mature he sounded in the airport regarding that). I was disappointed Ved ended up with him at the end of the book.

Ved was also deeply flawed, but apparently I was too busy being furious with his mom and Carlos that I didn’t write any notes about him lol (finally finishing this a looong time after reading it).

So, this book was okay. There were some parts that I liked, but I ended up yelling at the book while reading a lot of it (well, angrily ranting in notes in the kindle app lol).

My favorite part of the book is they used the phrase “couldn’t care less” properly multiple times

I absolutely loved reading this book. It was a nice insight into Indian culture. Vedu provides great representation for LGBT+ people, especially those who are currently closeted. I would 100% recommend this book
