Read- February 2021 for Polarthon (Team Walrus-Dark Cover)
- This is a book that I've been wanting to read for quite a few years but just never picked up until now. I found it so enjoyable but it wrapped up far too quickly for my liking. I would have preffered it to be around 400 pages just so I could get the most that I could out of this world.

When I read the synopisis I felt that this would be something that was very much up my alley , however I had never read anything from Jamie Smith before so didn't know what to expect.

I am happy to report that i absolutely loved it! This is perfect example of how a short book can still give you insights in to the characters and and the world , without rushing the plot. I couldn't put this book down and read it in one sitting. I am eager to read more work from this author.

I enjoyed the writing style and the atmopshere that was built up within the book. I was rooting for our main character to do well.

I kept forgetting that it was a middlegrade and half expected a romace to blossom.. then i sat back and was like " no!! its a middlegrade"not that I wanted it to , it's just that is what I have been used to reading but thats a me thing. I have been so used to reading YA that I think that it was definitely an experience of reading a middlegrade like this.
The found family vibe, a young girl fighting for not only her survival but that of her home and family is juts THE most heartwarming thing. I cried but in a good way

I cannot wait to see what comes next for Jamie

"Live well, little ash-cat."

I seriously adored reading this book. I have a soft spot for adventurous, brave, yet sensitive young girls as main characters; Sabira is all of these things and more. The curious magic of frostslivers was refreshingly unique, as was the way Smith used them to drive and twist the narrative forward.

What I loved most about this book was its underlying messages of peace and togetherness. Sabira's compassion for her antagonists makes her an unusual hero. She wants to protect her people, of course -- but she also seeks to listen, understand, and then act. In a world where walls, both physical and figurative, are being built between people, a story like "Frostfire" is much needed to inspire hope.

For a childern/teen novel this goes hard, but I won't complain! It had an amazing story and a amazing strong female character, the setting was also very lovely, very winter-y. Loved that it wasn't to long, and the cover for it is so beautiful that I bought the paperback version!

Perhaps I am too harsh on this book, but the pacing was too slow for it to be fun, and I didn’t connect with the characters at all. The plot twists were predictable and the stakes never felt real since the protagonist kept lucking out of difficult situations.

Extremely creative story. I loved the world it was in. It lacked a bit of worldbuilding, but it didn't take away from the enjoyment of the story too much. All in all, a fast-paced, quick, enjoyable middle grade read.
