So I've had mixed results with the novellas in this series and unfortunately MIDNIGHT UNLEASHED is probably my least favorite of them all. This one just didn't work for me because I really wasn't on board with how the romance played out.

Sia was a cool heroine and I loved that she could kick butt and take care of herself. She’s not a natural fighter but her Atlantean strength and abilities give her an advantage when fighting humans and even the Breed. But Trygg never worked for me as a hero; he’s way too possessive but also emotionally unavailable for Sia. Now his past definitely makes this understandable but it doesn't excuse his actions. He pretty thoroughly pushes Sia away after they sleep together but then turns around the next night and turns into a complete caveman, ruining the mission Sia was helping with and even killing an (assumed) innocent JUSTICE agent. Atlantans and Breed have been enemies for a long time so Sia has always believed that the Breed are just violent killing machines and quite frankly Trygg doesn't do anything in this book to disprove that notion.

When Trygg finally opens up to Sia about his past, it’s horribly traumatic and includes Trygg as a teenager being used for sex by an older woman who pimps him out to grown men and women. So why after sharing all of that would Sia try to “comfort” him by asking for sex, one last time, before she returns to her people?? Basically making him feel used only for his body just like before.

I also really didn't like that the only LGBTQ character (good or bad) that has ever been mentioned in a series of over 20 books is a gay drug lord who preys on young boys.

Content Warning: Trygg was forced into prostitution as a teenager after escaping the Hunter program where he was forced to be an assassin.

YAY!! Another hunter found his soft side. Trygg has always been grumpy, always stomping around with an angry look. If his size wasn't enough for a human to keep his distance, the scarred face would do it.

Sia couldn't be scared a way..No matter how may times Trygg treated her poorly, she always seemed to come back. She was always "just around the corner" making his life difficult. It was AWESOME!!!!!

Trygg is part of the Italian Order, helping Lazzaro fight Santino and the Red Dragon. Everything was going fine until Sia kept messing with Trygg's heart and mind. Trygg isn't as tough as he thinks. He is determined to prove his worth to the order, when he should be worried about proving his worth to Sia.

I have missed the breed, so I couldn't resist another binge, but this time with audiobooks. LOVED IT!!!!

I didn't love the ending... It was OK, but It felt a little rushed. Like I needed another chapter before the Epilogue.

Before reading this book Trygg was one of the fav breeds. I had looked forward to his book. But it was a little of a let down for me. One of the reasons I liked him was that he was a scared hero and was a bit surly to everyone. But Sia just brought the whole book down. Don't get me wrong I still love the series and can't wait to read more of the book. I was just expected more out of Trygg's mate/happily ever after.

I didn't really like Melana and Bella in this book to me they just seem like gossipers, and mean girls.

Could be part due to the novella style but mostly it was that he pushed her away too much and in the end it felt more forced because of it. It took away from the bond that they had started. Too much angst for a novella and not enough time to resolve well. Not the worse of the breed but just kind of good in the end.
