It made me laugh, cry, and curse at the "villain". Definitely an amazing continuation to the story of Saffron and his Night Prince. I'm happy I could read more of Ashe since they have become one of my favorite characters.

It was so fun to return to this world! Saffron is finally able to go to school with Cylvan and even has a glamour to blend in with the other fae. But, of course, they can't openly court and have to pretend to get to know each other. Saffron makes many new friends along the way, including a feisty owl that absolutely stole my heart. While loving school, Saffron struggles to control his forbidden magic and to reckon with the plight of the humans who are oppressed by the fae. A great continuation to the series!

Overall I really really loved this volume, the ending alone was as crazy as Graves’ endings always are.

That said, it felt like this was trying to be two books at once: one about Saffron trying to play high fey while going to school, and the other about Saffron trying to uncover the mystery of his new aridity. It was frustrating and made reading difficult. I kept getting whiplash as it swapped between the two story lines— right as I got comfortable with one, we’d switch to the other plot. The two plots were good on their own, but could have been weaved together a bit more gently.

More than ever, Kellen Graves has masterfully woven together plot threads, foreshadowing, and romance to create another addition to this world of intrigue and magic. Herald of the Witch’s Mark is definitely my favorite book of the Rowan Blood series thus far. The setting of Mairwen Academy plus all of the wonderful new side characters we met made this book so fun to read, even if it did have some classic Kellen Graves angst thrown in there. I was surprised over and over by the story in the best way. I expected (almost) none of what happened in this book and so I was on the edge of my seat the whole way through.

Getting to see Saffron finally get to be a student made me so happy!! And lots more romance, smut, and hurt/comfort between our two main characters.

Ryder Kyteler feels like such a polarizing character; I was constantly flipping between loving and hating him. I neeeeeed to know what happens next! Especially knowing this series will be 8 books total… Kellen you are going to put us Rowan Blood lovers through the wringer!

I was provided an ARC in exchange for an honest review. (Thank you Kellen!)
