"Long ago, when Earth was new
and Sky was black as printer’s ink,
two stories fell like shooting stars.”

One of my favorite picture books of all time.

I got this book as a child and only recently rediscovered it. It's the type of book that when you read it as an adult, you get so much more out of it.

2 stories, 1 book. Fox's story: a tale of greed and quests for power and control. Embodies the idea of 'in a war between elephant's it's the grass that loses'. Creatures that spend so much time fighting each other and trying to win that they forget and neglect the very thing they are fighting about. And Bear's story: a tale of teamwork and working to make things right when they go wrong, even when they are harder than you thought they would be.

These morals and messages written in beautiful, and emotionally resonant language, and illustrated with an almost native flair, this book is perfect. Honestly, I would give it more than 5 stars if I could.
