I wanted this to be better than it was. The concept was great, the execution was a flop. I didn’t like the way Douglas Preston described characters and situations. The putting down of Jurassic Park when that was clearly his inspiration left a bad taste in my mouth. The blatant sexism was also obnoxious.

The ending wrapped up WAY too tidy, as far as the bad guys goes. The MC was barely likeable. A few plot twists were good, others visible chapters away. Not Preston's best work, by far. I can't see a good reason to continue this story like, outside of the enormous cliffhanger he left, and frankly, that can just be ignored.
This was a fun read, but I wanted to have more: more action, horror, surprises. It was a quick ready so that's good, and I enjoyed it, but I was left unsatisfied with the ending.
A glam-camp resort in the Rockies, where wooly mammoths live, is a honeymoon destination to a couple (a billionaire's son and his newly pregnant wife). When they disappear and presumed dead, a local agent Cash, together with a local sheriff, Colcord try to find out what happened to them.
I usually do not mind when I figure out what the twist is going to be, but I did here. Very underwhelming.

Decent story with an interesting premise, not terribly predictable.
Character design felt too binary - everyone in power were portrayed as bumbling idiots meant to be despised, while the employees under them were written as competent individuals who are merely victims of having their glory stolen from them. Maybe that's reminiscent of our reality, but it's far too on the nose, and seeing the most mundane aspects of our reality brought to focus without subtlety in fiction isn't particularly enthralling.

Spoiler
And of course all the 'hated' characters die in a pathetic manner, while our protagonist saves the day with her trusty sidekick. At least there wasn't a forced romance subplot shoehorned in.
