informative slow-paced

I really liked this book. Basically everyone who has attended sixth grade in US school systems knows about Lincoln and his assassination. This was a pretty interesting retelling of the story, despite the displeasure some people have with the writing style and Bill O'Reilly himself.

Very readable. Interesting information on all of the players involved in this tragedy. Great list of references at the end.
informative mysterious

An enjoyable, easy read. Seemed a bit embellished and read like fiction in places. Bill O'Reilly is an ass, but the book is ok. I'll give Killing Kennedy a read too.

Hated this book. While the time period it addresses is fascinating, I was so irritated by the poor writing, that I had to force myself to finish it. I would not have finished it if it weren't a book club choice.

FYI, in case Bill O'Reilly happens to read this:
Adding the words "And the man who had less than [insert countdown]days to live" after every section does not build suspense!
emotional informative sad fast-paced

Bill O'Reilly does a great job narrating this book he wrote. I hadn't realized how fragile our country was at the time--amazing it didn't all fall apart with the assassination.

I think the most interesting to note about this book is that one of the most devisive people on the political scene praises Lincoln's plans for reunification through accepetance. The story is well done but is quite speculative in many of it's assumptions. While the story is mostly factual, you still see history as it feels through the slant of O'Reilly and his co-author. There are also seems to be several tangents that connect only slightly back to the book. I am still trying to digest whether I liked the long afterword or if I felt they were trying to put too much into the book. Overall, I would recommend someone who is interested in this period of time to pick it up. I did learn things that were either never taught to me in school or I didn't care to remember until now :)

This book was a fascinating account of the end of the Civil War and the various plots to kill or capture President Lincoln, which had all basically fallen apart before John Wilkes Booth decided to take matters into his own hands. Definitely recommend!
