This is everything I love in historical fiction and more. The way each boarder's life and personality is explored in their POV chapters, the way they weave in and out of each other's lives, the mystery surrounding it all, and the small glimpses of a semi-sentient house (don't worry, it works) makes for a fantastic set up and story. There is also a breadth of historical research and real events woven in that are fascinating and add extra, deeper layers to this already impressive story (the historical note at the end is a must but ONLY after you've read the book). The twists and reveals were expertly done and I was absolutely hooked from the start. It's been a while since I've been so immersed in a story and I can definitely see myself revisiting this in the future.
