The authors note had me in tears I'm so not prepared now for what this graphic novel will bring me
"To everyone seeking their voice and reaching for their power"
I love the art style so far it's so well done and makes me believe I'll fall for the characters

I totally relate to the author and her sentence with her ex bestfriend Rachel "if there is anyone in the galaxy I am dying to tell what really happened its Rachel" it's so sad when we lose the bestfriends that have been through everything with us

You can tell Heather would love to be friends with the author but Melinda isn't as bright or happy as she is.
Melinda has found a abandoned janitors closet and decided to make it her secret closet. Heather is full of Merryweather pride and dragged Melinda to the pep rally where people bully Melinda over a decision she made of calling the cops to bust Kyle's party nobody knows what truly happened that she was raped by a upperclassmen who still attends the school.

Heather is one of those friends who tries to get you involved in everything so when she and Melinda didn't get a part in the school musical it broke her.
Melinda's parents you can definitely tell just make Melinda feel like her grades are all she's worth they harass her for it when Melinda is going through many things and they force her to do illegal child labor which is abuse

Heather ends up being like everyone else once she finds a group called the Martha's they pick on Melinda and Heather joins in by saying it seems like Melinda has a disease.
 "Who are we and why?"
I apperciate that Melinda has made the closet space hers and a space to read where she has a poster of Maya Angelou the author the school banned
During Thanksgiving Melinda's mom cooks a turkey in hopes it'll make the family be a family for another year
Melinda's dad sits on his ass and doesn't help the family during the hoildays
Melinda does a art project with her wishbone originally she starts with the barbies head on then pulls it off to symbolize pain which her art teacher soonly Recognizes.
David petrakis Lawyer ends up threatening to sue the school for Mr. Necks sexist and racist comments (we love a advocate)
Heather and Melinda end up still be friends but Heather has ended up being a model and starving herself she complains about retaining water

Melinda's rapist andy evans has found her once again in the school "800 girls in this school and he finds me" due to this her grades drop and her parents ground her not realizing what had happened, once that happens Melinda starts self harming and her moms response is "I don't have time for this melinda" this shows you how being raped affects you and how parents dont understand

Mr. Freeman losing his budget broke me as it destroyed him and his passion for art he ended up slashing his painting, Melinda ends up skipping school the next Day probably due to seeing her rapist multiple times Heather ends up leaving Melinda because she's depressed  and because she just wants to be apart of the marthas.
Later on we get to experience the party that ruined Melinda's life page 240 is where anyone who's been assaulted should proceed with caution. Melinda deserved better.
This book is definitely great for victims of sexual assault or if you're going through something

I wanted to scream when Melinda was caller meatilda by someone who was supposed to listen to her
Rachel and Melinda start to talk to eachother and they get into the details of the party and when Melinda exposes that it's Andy Evans the guy Rachel is seeing she calls Melinda a liar then experiences him himoing her on the dance floor during prom
"If you're tough enough to survive this they'll let you become an adult
In the end of the book andy evans finds Melinda in her space and yells at her for exposing him and attacks her saying "you liked it, you didn't scream" he tries to rape her again placing his lips on her neck  his teeth on her neck Melinda  ends up able to hit him  and she screams then he hits her and makes her bleed she gets him back in the head but it doesn't stop him from taking advantage of her again
She's finds a sharp object and puts it up to his throat "I want to slice his head odd I want to hear him scream" she looks him in the eyes "i said no" She's able to escape and there's people outside the door asking her if she's okay she tells them to call the cops she ends up doing summer school due to all of this. Rachel ended up reaching out due to this story spreading.
"Andy evans raped me in August it wasn't my fault"
"His body crushes me it breathes like a dragon"
