It is an enjoyable listen. The main characters are interesting and engaging. They do have chemistry. The flaw is that the book should have been longer. Veronica's relationship with her son and ex should have been explored, and Cassie's developing friendship with Veronica's son too. The intrigue happening at work could have been handled better as it is something interesting. If only the story would have been longer.... but it is good! It could have much more, but you'll like what you find here.

“Did she just...” Peter watches them go. “Steal a patient?”

3.5 stars. A great slow burn medical romance. Not quite as amazing as the other book I've read from this author, but it has really solid character work, great writing, great pacing. I enjoyed myself a lot! It starts off as kind of enemies to lovers. Veronica is a general surgeon and department head at her hospital, and the head of Trauma job that she'd thought one of her friends would get is snapped up by Cassie, an army surgeon fresh from the front lines. They butt heads a lot, and have very different ways of running their departments, but the sparks begin to fly, slowly but surely. Veronica is a divorced mother of one, still working on co-parenting her teenaged son, and I loved the ways the interactions with Danny and Cassie played out. Cassie is still getting re-acclimated to civilian life, and I loved the ways they connected over that, how Veronica is able to help her through some tough things, bring her back to herself. I really enjoyed that they were both so mature and level-headed, but still got a little giddy over one another. I just really loved how the writing showed their progression, from the fantastic and definitely unique meet-cute, up to the realisation that they're falling for one another.

I do think the conflict with the antagonist could have been handled a bit better? Both characters kept getting hints about stuff, hunches about things going wrong, and for some reason, they really took their time about actually like, doing something about the problem? It felt manufactured, like the author had them specifically wait so it could all play out at the end. Unfortunately, it just made both women seem a lot less smart and capable then they actually are.

Listened to the audiobook as read by Gabrielle Baker, whose narration I always really enjoy. Keeley continues to impress me! I'll definitely be getting around to the rest of her backlist.

Mostly a enjoyable lesbian romance with a medical setting. Wanted more out of it but was an ok fluff.
