Slow start

I have enjoyed Daniel Hurst's books but I truly think this is his best one yet.

I literally could not put it down. Full of twists and turns, lies and deceit. I loved all of the characters, even the ones you were meant to hate.

I loved the ending. I loved everything about it.now to read the ARC i have for the sequel called The Doctors Widow

I hadn't realised when I started listening to this book that it was the second in the series following on from 'The Doctor's Wife' however it works perfectly well as a standalone title. Having enjoyed the book so much I do want to go back and read the first book now to capture the back story!

There are lots of twists and turns to keep the reader captivated and the audio book is very skillfully narrated to add to the suspense and intrigue. Fern is enjoying her inheritance and newly widowed status following the murder of her husband, Doctor Drew. She hadn't banked on meeting a new love interest in 'Roger ' who isn't all he seems. When Fern lets her guard down a little, Roger ( who happens to be Drew's old friend Greg) uses the information to seek justice for his old friend and the woman falsely imprisoned for his murder.

I was slightly disappointed with the sudden ending after a couple of bombshell moments but realise this is because there will be a third instalment in the series - bring it on!

I am grateful to the publishers and Netgalley for an advanced listener copy of this audiobook.

Hurst’s books are always a quick, easy read about common trials in life. This book has minor reveals that keep getting bigger as you progress. I wouldn’t say thriller, but more suspense. Nothing earth shattering, but great for a lazy afternoon .

Loved it but the epilogue ruined it for me, I’d have much preferred if she had found someone and settled down (or things had turned out differently with Rory)

I will definitely be looking up all of Daniel Hursts books. This was a thriller I couldn’t put down. Such a crazy twist I did not see coming! An affair gone wrong… or is it?

Thank you NetGalley and the publisher for the ARC.

You want to add this to your list!

I’ll never understand how this has been ranked so highly on good read - the first 50% was painful. It read slowly and like a long blog post recounting every thought of an individuals inner monologue. The second half was better, with a bit more pace but it made it suddenly feel very rushed. Everything tied up just a bit too neatly. Wouldn’t bother reading - if you’ve got time to sit and enjoy a book, pick something else
