Actual Rating: 4.25 for now…. I feel like I need time to think
No spoilers!
The first half of this book was slow for me and then bad things started happening and I was mad enough that I almost put the book down, but I didn’t let myself do that because if I did, I wouldn’t ever finish the series and I love this series.
The second half made me give this a higher rating because of the faster pacing and because of a specific chapter. Chapter 30, A Fetid Pool, you know what you did. I was a mess to put it lightly and I was incredible moved emotionally. Michael continues to make me cry multiple times for each of his books. So yeah, not my favorite in the series, it might actually be my least favorite, but I still loved a lot of it.
Read this series if you like reading about:
Classic fantasy, elves with magic, dwarves, talking trees, gods, hidden identities, dragons, sacrifice, friendship, disability rep, women leaders & some great romantic relationships.

Great book, as all the others were! exciting buildup, lots of pieces in play, tense moments!! I can’t believe you left it on MULTIPLE cliffhangers :’D
I’d say it’s my least fav so far, perhaps partly because it was a lot of set up for the next book, but I also didn’t 100% love the portrayal of spirits. Explaining what ghosts were a bit too much etc., but it’s a very very very minor pick. Nit pick.

This book was an odd one. After the events of Age of War and my attachment to a certain character suddenly feeling empty, I had a hard time letting myself get into this one. I have grown very fond of our current cast of characters though, and the quest-type plot is a good way to carry a series through a war that had stagnated and would have grown boring to read otherwise. There were a lot of jaw-dropper moments and connections I made to previous books in the series that made this really fun and satisfying to read. I cannot wait to start Age of Death!
