It's a play, not a novel. I think my enjoyment of it was corrupted by the fact that all the tropes that this play must have invented have been used so frequently in pop culture since that they are nothing but boring anymore.

Delightful, and of course all social commentary is lost on me—did not realise there was any such without reading the reviews—of course one respectable person ought to marry for wealth or bloodline, and any self-respecting lady shan't marry any man of lower birth. I thoroughly detest the modern delusion that marriage is a product and device of romantic love.
And how would mere production befit any gentleman? Such is reserved for the lower classes.

How did I never notice just how damn queer coded Algernon was/is in this story? It is funnier now than when I first read it, read with a friend over facebook!

Funniest thing I've read all year. Loved it.
