Tobias will always break my whole heart. Against his own better judgement, he allows himself to hope that someone out there wants to take care of him, and
Spoilerwhen this is proved to all be a trap, his reaction speaks so much to who he was before the animorphs.
The self loathing he experiences really hit me in the gut. His struggles to reconcile his humanity with his hawk-ness continue to be devastating.

What I also like about Tobias's narration is the criticism he has for humans that we just don't get with the rest of the kids. His reflections that even if they win the war against the yeerks, humans are not likely to maintain peace on their own planet, really rang true.

I kind of never really pay super close attention to the missions the kids attempt in the books, finding myself much more interested in their interior lives and relationships. So I don't exactly remember who the Ellimist is and I'm too scared of spoilers of future books to look it up. A couple other questions i have:

Spoilerso does this mean that Ax is his uncle?

Why does Tobias believe the lawyer guy so readily? Why are we meant to believe him?

I very much enjoyed this Tobias book.  Tobias is the character who has sacrificed the most in this series, and the trauma is real.  The trauma and depression really come out in this book, honestly, great for a middle grade book to be tackling such issues.  I didn't see the twist coming, and I'm surprised I was able to stay spoiler free on that this whole time.  This series really seems to be hitting its stride here in the 20s.

I cannot believe they followed up the David trilogy with an even better book, omg.
I will be thinking about Tobias falling from the sky in despair for a long, long time. Why didn’t anyone tell me Animorphs was gonna make me cry?? Also love Visser 3 being so obsessed with Elfangor he sets up this weeks long scheme just to see if his son is cool LMAO
