This was certainly a very surprising read, but I also found it to be a good conclusion to the dueology.

Wow this book was crazy. I loved the direction that a character went and how the main character had to heal with so many problems. The plot was a good pace, I was so invested in these characters, well except Pasha.

Can't believe the ending of this book was just "If we all just loved each other a little more the Russian Revolution wouldn't have happened"

Pasha is spoiled and incompetent and the monarchy needed to go.

The first book is a lot better, but this book has a lot of interesting and amazing aspects. However the story line is forced and flawed in many aspects.

This was a hard one to rate. To be clear, I did enjoy it for the most part. The story was powerful and emotional and dark (holy Darkness Batman) and if it stood on its own, I might have loved it more. But it's a sequel, so I was familiar with the characters and the world and situations. Vika and Pasha remained two of my favourites, as she was strong yet vulnerable at the same time. Pasha managed to get back into my heart after his choice in the previous book. I have mixed feelings on Renata and Yuliana, but I still found them to be interesting and complex. My biggest problem was Nikolai. I understand what the author was going for and agree that it technically wasn't his fault and I don't deny that it added a lot of tension to the story, but it was such a violent 180 degree shift that I couldn't get past it. I wanted a lot more struggle, not sociopathy. I also think that the ending, while shocking at one particular instance, was a little too clean. There should have been waaaaay more consequences. This is taking place in Russia, after all. This said, I'm not trying to bash the book or the series. It's completely inventive and the scenes involving magic are beautifully creative. It might not be the most perfect ending from a writing perspective, but as a reader, I thoroughly enjoyed it.

I enjoyed the first book more than this one. Although it was still enjoyable I found the ending to be a little too neat for my liking which felt unrealistic considering the stakes throughout the series.

Not the ending I was expecting but a nice finish to this twisted tale on Russian history.
