About a Boy

Nick Hornby

I simply was curious about the book especially since they have made a movie and a few tv shows of it now. I have not seen any of that, and after reading it, I still don't see the appeal to make that into a movie. It was an interesting read, but simply just a story and there does not seem to be much of a climax to the book... Just a story of a boy growing up and learning lessons, and it can continue like that because there is no concrete ending to it.

Very good balance of entertaining and serious. It's fades a bit toward the end, but is still satisfying. I love Nick Hornby's writing style. We laughed out loud on many occasions.

I didn't really mean to read this book--I just thought the movie was so-so and didn't know much Nick Hornby. My brother-in-law had it when we were staying with Brian's family over Christmas, and when we got snowed in, pickings were slim. Turns out that I couldn't put it down. I've since scooped up all of Hornby's books for my ridiculously large to-read stack.

will's so horrible, but so aware of it, that it's hilarious to read

This book was super indie, it has to me a "Perk of Being a Wallflower" vibe. It definitely was not my favorite book & not one I would really recommend either, unless you like books like Perks. It does have some funny moments and I'm glad I finished it, I just wasn't impressed. It's basically about a 12 year with a messed up life, his parents are split up and he befriends this nearly 40 year old who is a messed up human being & together they figure out how to survive life as it is for them. It's certainly interesting.

I wish this book had never come to me
