I do not remember much about About a Boy. Something about an adult being childish and a child being adult. But I faintly remember the banter is hilarious. The characters are darling.

I did not watch the movie though.

I hated this one.

Firstly Will was just a horrible fucking person, whose thoughts I was not curious about. Marcus was the only compelling character in this whole ass book.

His mom annoyed me to no end, and actually, everyone acted like they were children.

the fact that when Fiona became suicidal she didn't ask for any help, she didn't own up to her incompetency as a mother and in fact tried to keep it a secret, sickened me. Also, no other adult thought there was a problem with that, which is fucking crazy. Marcus should have been taken from her because SHE WAS UNABLE TO TAKE CARE OF A CHILD. It deeply affected his psyche in a negative way already.

Also, the message of this book is disturbing.
The fact that Will and Fiona agreed that Marcus literally changing and being less and less attached to life was a positive development for him is actually psychotic

Get poor Marcus out of these idiot's lives

Not a bad book, though I didn't feel it was very memorable.
