I really liked this author's style. The writing is so wonderfully "readable" and it's easy to get involved into the character's lives and the story. I will surely try to read something else by him.
I did however not get much of the point of this book. I liked the characters, the way they were so much like real people and it was so easy to identify with each of them at some point and of course to be sympathetic about their experiences and feelings.

A novel that is, as usual, far superior to the film version (soundtrack of said film not withsanding). If you've only seen the movie, be prepared for a much darker novel without some of the convenient plot tie-ups mainstream cinema often creates. This is a great novel about both a literal coming of age and the emotional coming of age of a 30-something man (Hornby's primary subject matter). Wonderfully and realistically written. Hornby always manages to capture the fact that life isn't a neat little package and quite frequently sucks.
I likely would've given this a 3.5 rather than a 4. I like the narrator flips and dynamic nature of both protagonists, but it wasn't incredible in my opinion, likely due to female representation and inability to relate with two British male voices.
Still, I know some students to recommend this to for a dose of realism and uniqueness.

Funny, engaging. Deceptively simple. Nice combination of lightness and depth.
Quick and enjoyable read. Deeper than I thought it would be and different, in many ways, from the movie version.

'Nur' 3 Sterne, weil man merkt, dass das Buch schon etwas älter ist (1998) und es einige weirde Szenen gab - außerdem wurde keine wirkliche Spannung aufgebaut. Die Grundidee der Geschichte ist aber ganz cool und die Charaktere sind besonders :)

Perfect book for getting out of a reading slump. Uncomplicated, quick paced story.

I enjoyed the heck out of that one. It's been a long time since I've read a book and just enjoyed the whole darn thing so thoroughly.
