Easy read and I liked the way the author developed the characters, it really makes you think about how your life ended up the way it did and the way you develop your friendships.

I can't believe I hadn't read this one before. The narration of the audiobook I have was perfection (I think the version I got isn't available on Audible anymore though). Loved it.

This book is great!! It is funny and serious and touching. I love the dual narrators, they add so much to the story and really help in the development in their characters and the characters around them. I loved the movie but I loved the book because it goes a little deeper into the changes in the characters that take place. I would highly recommend this book. I think it did help to have the images of the movie characters in my head while reading the novel.

I got the book on a whim in my library - I never saw the movie but vaguely remembered that it was popular. I’m really glad I took a chance; it was an unexpected surprise. I don’t know if I would’ve liked it as much if I read it when it came out in 1998 - for me it was a good reflection on a specific time in my life as well as a story about growth/relationships.

Brilliant!!

Really glad it’s been so long since I have seen the movie that I didn’t totally remember it. This book was fun. I really like his writing.

About a Boy by Nick Hornby

For a book filled with cynicism and misery, About a Boy is remarkably warm-hearted and funny. It's also a pleasure to read a "coming-of-age" tale in which both boy and man appear to be coming of age!

The casual emergence of a relationship between the shiftless Will and troubled Marcus is surprisingly effective. Hornby has done a great job sketching the character of Marcus, who reads as "a bit autistic" but in a very affectionate and natural fashion. In recent years, the inclusion of neurodiverse characters can seem patronising and heavy-handed, but here Marcus emerges as the most ordinary and grounded of all we meet!

Funny and poignant, this one tackles some heavy subject matter with a daft sense of the absurd and a refreshingly light touch.
