Mallory Pike is now old enough that she can start babysitting, so this former babysitting charge is invited to a meeting of the Baby-Sitters Club. But the members of the BSC make it incredibly difficult for Mallory to prove her skills as a babysitter (despite the fact that she has eight younger siblings) so Mallory quits and forms a new club-Kids' Incorporated-with her friend Jessi Ramsey. The BSC members finally realize how terrible they were treating Mallory, so they apologize and offer her and Jessi spots in the Baby-Sitters Club.

I have never read this BSC book so it was fun to finally see how Mallory and Jessi joined the club! Although I will say that this was not my favorite book from the series. I usually prefer the narration from the older members. But also, the older girls were MEAN in this book!! I felt so bad for Mallory. Obviously there needed to be some sort of conflict, but it seemed a little out of character. They have loved Mallory in the other books. Jessi’s storyline was also sad. This one is worth the read to keep up with the storyline but not my favorite!

I read every Babysitters club book that was in print until I was about 12-13. I loved them. So sweet and cute. But each book had a good lesson to learn

Awww. Reading how Mallory and Jesse got their start in the BSC is too cute. Interesting way to handle the racism against Jesse, kind of one dimensional.

Ohhhh. I’m Mallory.

Thus is the first time I’ve read through the series book by book, and I have had trouble identifying with a character until now. I has ruled out Mallory because I am the baby of the family, not the oldest, and was more of a single child at her age. I didn’t have an obsession with horses or a knack with children. But otherwise, we are very similarly minded. Her narrative voice just fits the voice in my head.

I don't remember liking Mallory much because she was too young/childish (I was eight or nine btw and also, apparently, a hypocrite) but her narration is pretty adorable and I love the developing of her friendship with Jessi/themes of finding your first bff and the deeper, nuanced themes in this book.
