- The main characters are enjoyable. Ezra is totally my man. Witty, sarcastic and a total softie. Kady is cool due to her intelligence but she’d annoy me irl. They do carry the entire story well.
- The format with all the documents and emails instead of a running story, is just not for me. They were confusing and there were simply too many types of formats. I would first have to figure out what I even was reading and who the heck were speaking to each other. It felt like a puzzle.
- Phobos (a virus in the ship Alexander) was awesome. I slurp up all apocalyptic stories. They’re freaky, gore and a little moral breaking. But this was not the book where the concept of Phobos could peak.
- So many words that aren’t explained. So many names. So many companies and ships and ranks. Heck if I know what’s going on 200 pages in. I kept hoping to be enlightened better. I wasn’t.
- I can understand there are fans for this series. I’m not one. I DNF’d it at about 350 pages.

Reread: SO FLIPPING GOOD.
It’s really not hard to see why this book has such great reviews when you pick it up. It’s written in such a unique way that keeps you hanging on as each little bit of the story unfolds. I listened on audio and having a full cast MADE this. However, I am interested to read it in physical copy too. I will definitely re-read this because I cannot resist visiting this world again.

Let's just say from the off that this is a really good book. I loved the formatting and the method of storytelling. I found the opening pages really funny and I was annoyed when Kady, part way through, turned into some fawning, love sick, female YA stereotype (dropped a star there), but then... well... no spoilers but it got interesting. AIDAN the AI on the Alexander is introduced part way through the book and is an amazing character. I loved the interaction between Kady and AIDAN. I'm not sure I liked Ezra but I'm looking forward to part two.

Re-read: March 2018 (audiobook)
This is the best audiobook I've ever listened to, the full cast is amazing. 5 stars. All time fav.

I have absolutely no words. This book destroyed me... A+... The story was so different from anything I've read, I won't be able to stop thinking about this one for a long long time. Grade A book hangover happening right now. Wow.

The premise was cool, the format was interesting, but the characters are too annoying for me to continue.
I think you could call this a unique reading experience. If there are other books out there like this then they are certainly way off my radar.
The story is set in 2575, starting on a planet called Karenza. The planet is attacked by a mega corporation for basically financial gain. We follow two teenage survivors Kady and Ezra. That's the start. It's complicated, dramatic, a little bit crazy and I don't want to share any plot spoilers.
The plot certainly reads like a movie although I don't know how a movie would capture the best elements of this book which are not in the plot but the delivery. (I'll certainly watch any movie that is made to see how they attempt this!) The book format is what gives it wow factor. This is not a normal novel. It is a dossier of technical documents, transcripts of cctv, IM conversations, emails, journal entries, computer logs and various other forms of communication. The result is pretty amazing. I'd like to add some screen shots here but just go get a kindle sample or look at it in the bookshop, it's weird and beautiful.
If you don't totally hate the sci-fi, young adult concept then definitely go check it out! I'm not a massive reader of science fiction but I'll have a go and I'm really pleased I read this one!
Still a little in shock and excited for book two......
Gotta say, not as good on the re-read... Still excited for the next one though.
