I didn't find myself becoming completely immersed in this book, but I did enjoy it. The format of this book was amazing.

It took a little bit to get into this book, but I was quickly hooked and absolutely SPED through the second half. I loved the characters and I loved the unexpected twist and atmosphere the book took on.

4.5 I loved loved LOVED it. The style was so creative. I thought it maybe be strange but in fact it added so much to the story. I'm not usually a big sci-fi reader but I was devouring every second of this book, NEEDING to know how it ended. What a crazy ride.
The one critique I will say is that Kady isn't a great character. She really is strong heroine with not much of a personality. However, I think due to the format, where most of the time we don't see her inner thoughts, this is perfectly acceptable. I definitely felt this book was meant to make you focus more on the plot and the characters were just vehicles for getting it across. It didn't really affect my experience, but I can see how some people wouldn't like it.

A bit disjointed until you get the hang of it but if you like epistolary styles, you will really enjoy this one.
So if you follow me on instagram (@kuehlerbookstop) you probably saw where I was like, "I'm gonna take Illuminae with me on my trip home because it is totally holding my attention better than ADSOM". Well, now here is the thing.. I just finished Illuminae, so I can't take it on my trip home. I just finished all 599 glorious pages in 2 days. The way this book was written totally intrigued me, but I won't lie to you, the sci-fi part held me at bay. I was conflicted because sci-fi is normally not my thing. But Illuminae? Totally now my thing. Like I can't remember us ever not being a thing, that's how connected I am to Illuminae. Kaufman and Kristoff did amazing work on this book. It is so freaking unique in the way it is laid out in book form. It is so stellar that you would be a fool if you didn't pick up this book. If you're not a serious reader, do not even explore the pages because you will be hooked. Much like me. From line one I was done for.
So in short. This book was epic and I need Gemina, like yesterday. SO Gimme Gimme Gemina.

Sin duda, lo que más destaca en Illuminae es la originalidad de su edición, la forma en la que está construido. Es simplemente espléndida, hay que leerlo solo para darse cuenta que no hay una única forma de llegar al lector más jóven, que la innovación siempre termina sumando, y que novelas como esta ayudan a engordar el número de lectores de nuestro país. Dicho esto, es un libro young adult, bastante entretenido, muy ágil, que tal vez cojea un poco en argumento. Creo que la trama romántica no le hacía ninguna falta, la verdad, y tal vez podría mejorar en el apartado de la construcción de personajes. De todas formas vale la pena leerlo para flipar con las sorpresas que esconde detrás de cada una de sus páginas.
