I thought this collection was a beautifully constructed. I liked how the stories were interconnected so you could still get to know the characters through more than one story. I also appreciated how he changed from third to first person from one story to the next - it changed the tone from something serious to more relaxed. My perspective of what people have to go through when they go to war is forever impacted for the better by these stories. My appreciation and compassion for our service members and what they go through is so much greater. It was a tough read at times, but I feel so grateful to have read it.

One of my kids let me borrow this after they read it for class. I'd never heard of it, but when teenagers are talking about how good it is while they're reading it for school...well, I wanted to read it. I can see why they studied it. The craftsmanship and storytelling are exquisite.
A good book to see the inside of an important war and some of the after effects, but I found it hard to continue reading at times. Definitely not the most "nose in" book.
