Great piece of literature, most parts were amazing and gripping, no complaints, but not really a historical piece like I was looking for. People on Reddit were really hyping it up as a book "about Vietnam" but it didn't cross my mind that these people weren't on the same page as me and I was bummed a lil cause I forgot that Reddit is basically a place for people who feel sophisticated after masturbating. Anywho, Mary Anne walked so all modern pickmes could run. Seriously, enough with the solider girlfriend shtick. What about the nurses? Were there any female marines? Suppliers? Journalists? Anything? Guess we'll never know. Maybe Tim O'Brien didn't know either. It's okay. At times this book felt like that Adrian Gray "1910s" parody song "War is bad...and sad...makes me mad...never glad...worst thing I ever had..." A purely historical Vietnam book/album I'd recommend instead is "Vietnam" by Mate György. Though that one is NOT a literary piece. It tells war stories and states facts, period.

This book is so beautifully written; O’Brien is a very talented author. Honestly, I feel like this is a book that everyone should read at some point in their life to be a well rounded individual.
