Be careful for what you wish for.

David Calvo found out the hard way. He was a mild natured man who was regularly verbally abused by his shrew of a mother and his heartless boss. David was stuck taking care of Retha Calvo and he needed more money for her care even though though she did not appreciate his efforts. He needed a raise at his job badly. He also had an eye for the the pretty detective Anya Washington but did not have the courage to ask her out. So when an opportunity arose to where he could get some help from a magician/ voodoo practitioner, he took it. It was more trouble than what it was worth. His clone, Dutch was pure evil and reeked pure havoc, was David's dark side. Well, as it turned out, David did not need any help with getting Anya's attention as she was already attracted to him. They had to figure out how to get rid of Dutch and they did.

Stacey Deanne wrote a story that was difficult for me to read. Not that it was hard to read, the subject matter of rape and abuse was very difficult for me too handle. It was an intriguing paranormal story in that it taught a lesson, that one is better off to their own devices than relying on someone else to help with your personal short comings. There were just a few things left hanging in the story. Did David and Anya get their HEA.? How was Anya going to solve all of those murders now that Dutch was up in smoke and ashes? Inquiring minds are just curious to know.
