Esperanza's story broke my heart and put it back together again. I especially love the exchanges between Esperanza and her mother. Cisneros brings the people of Mango Street to life in short vignettes that really pack a punch.

Cisneros is a genius storyteller. The vivid textile that is The House on Mango Street fills the reader up every story, yet leaves one reaching for more, longing to soak up the sunlight and icy snow of each. This is a beautiful book, and I highly recommend it.
