This book got me through grippy sock jail, it had the prettiest cover out of all the other books in the library. I’m a sucker for Greek Gods mythology, and this book had everything I was interested in down to the love triangle. I’m so glad everyone got a happy ending, and the story really put my idea of love into perspective. None of the doctors were helpful while I was in the psych ward, only Aphrodite, haha!

This was a first for me an MMF story. I love the writing it definitely kept me engaged. I enjoyed the first half of the book but in the second half, I was starting to get frustrated with all the characters. One moment things were looking good then the next moment we are taking 3 steps backward. This was done one too many times throughout the book. Too many riddles. I wish we could've gotten some POV base on Theo and Alexander because I would love to know what's going on in their minds too. One thing that draws me into the book is that it is based on Greek gods and references a lot back to them. In irony, I hated the Greek gods in here. I was not thrilled by Aphrodite aka Alexander's mom. I adore Alexander but loathe the mom. Alexander is so forgiving of his mother I don't know how he could do it but bless his heart. I personally wanted him to be a little more resentful. Vanessa learns how to build her confidence and Theo learns to give love another chance. I did get tired toward the end because Vanessa was really indecisive. Yes, she can be very bold during certain moments but loses that momentum and begins to doubt herself. I did not like when it came to the part where they were going to drink the cure, Vanessa said she was not going to drink it anymore like it was as simple as that and here I was like wow you should've done this many chapters ago and everyone could've avoided the constant heartache. Yes, this did get a HEA but I feel like their relationship could've been more developed a lot. In the last part of the book, I feel like all three of their bond just sort of kind of withers away. Hence why I gave it 3 stars. I also have a love-hate relationship with all their platonic soulmates. I liked Ronan in the beginning but as time went on he stop doing much and stop being there for Venessa, especially how much the story implies the importance of platonic soulmates. I probably have more to say but I will stop here. Overall I think it is a good read if you want something that has just the right amount of angst you should read this.

The Greek Myth of this story with the contemporary setting was well done! Loved the characters and the way they interacted with each other--from the uncertainty to the way they got to know each other. The storyline and arcs were enjoyable and I liked the growth of their relationship on a personality level between the 3 characters. My only little hindrance from giving it five stars is how the physical aspects of their relationship felt a bit rushed to me towards the end. The beginning it felt so natural, even a bit awkward which was understandable for most of their experience level.

First of all, I'm sorry cause I don't know any Greek or Mythology stories so it was hard for me to grasp what is what, who, where. I wish I knew what the story was about but no.

Second of all, not gonna lie, I loved the characters from the beginning. It was really a new way of retelling and I'm glad I read it but confused inbetween.

And wow, love triangle plus mates ?? Fuck yes. Alexander was quite adorable, kind, cute and I wish he was my mate. Theo was closed person and wants his privacy and if i were in his shoes, i would do the same. But both of my boys are vulnerable and had tragic past so we couldn't fault them.

Our Female MC is caught between them. All she wanted was a mate who would love and cherish her forever but the gods have another choice in their minds and changed her fate forever.

Would she choose Alex or Theo or BOTH ? When both of them are handsome and sexy in their own ways, would she keep them or leave them?

What would you do if you were her ??

4.75 stars.

In a world, set where Greek Gods still rule the universe. Soulmates are appointed to you by the Gods between the ages of 21 and 24. Vanessa has always felt lost, she waited all her life to find her other half, the one who will make her life whole. After her soulmate ceremony goes terribly wrong, she finds her self with two soulmates. Torn between the bonds between them and the choices she has to make.

I really enjoyed this book, like I really, really loved it. The book started off really fast paced and got right into the story which I really enjoyed. The introduction of the world the story is set in and the world-building overall was great. The modernisation of the Greek world was done so well, it wasn't hard to understand. It reminded me a lot of Percy Jackson (but like without being a rip off of Percy Jackson). I loved the chariot Uber services and the Cupids lol.

The main part of the story, the love story, was so entertaining. The story got more complex as it went on but it was done so well and wasn't overdone. Every explanation lined up perfectly and it made the story so satisfying. Like it all actually made sense.

Yes this story is a love triangle but it's not a typical love triangle. I actually ended up loving all three of them so much. Alexander is this soft golden retriever himbo and he was so cute. Theo is a dark, brooding tattooed boy who has all this trauma and you just want him to know he actually deserves happiness. And Vanessa, the main character was my favourite. Her character development and her coming into her own self-worth was the best thing. I was fully hooked in the Greek tragedy all three of them found themselves in.

The story itself was really enjoyable, yes it had obvious tropes, the characters were a little annoying at times but I could overlook that because of much immersed in the story i was.

The only thing I found confusing was the system to do with platonic soulmates, because it just felt like it was a normal soulmate bound but without the sex. The way it was set up felt a little pointless and I wish there was better distinction between the two. I also found Vanessa's own platonic soulmate, Ronan to be the absolute worse after the first couple chapters and his apology at the end of the book didn't redeem him for me.

Overall, this book was great. The way it was written felt very nostalgic to the romance books I used to read when I was younger. If you love Greek mythology, Tragedy backstories, Slow-burn romances, Poly romances and the sunshine and grump tropes, then you should defo read this.

I adored this book! Everything from the romance to the plot was beautifully written and the way Greek mythology is intertwined with the modern day is so interesting.

I liked the emphasis placed on not needing outside forces for validation and the growth the MC goes through was such a great character arc. This was such an achingly brilliant slow burn in so many respects – both with romance and the gentle build of the plot.

The spice is perfectly balanced with other elements of the story and really added to it rather than just being thrown in. If you’re someone who really knows your classic Greek mythology you’re going to really enjoy this!

Overall, definitely a new favourite and I can’t wait to have a physical copy!

Do you like Greek mythology? Does a saucy love triangle make you giddy? Then The Promise of Lightning is your next read! Sprinkled with factual Greek references, this complicated love story will soften any heart.

When humanity threatened the gods, the ancient gods split their soul in half, making humans look for their soulmate to become whole. Desperate for love, Vanessa asks the gods to show her the way to discovering her soulmate. Everything was working out perfectly, until she is given two soulmates. Torn between making a decision and fear of losing her true soulmate, Vanessa journeys towards discovering the truth behind her predicament.

This book was so much fun. It has amazing polyamorous representation, which is hard to find in fantasy. The representation of consent is dealt with perfectly. The love triangle is difficult and romantic. The use of Greek mythology for such a unique concept was amazing and intriguing! I cannot wait to read more by Jenna!
