i enjoyed the first two books in this series but i actually had a hard time getting through this one. i think part of my problem is that i actually enjoyed lauren when she was kind of a grumpy jerk, and once she stopped being a grumpy jerk, she lost her entire personality and was difficult to distinguish from the rest of the female protagonists in the series who all have really similar voices and mannerisms. the flipping between 2012/2016 only in the first half of the book also didn't really work for me. also some nitpicky stuff like a mention that mike was the captain at one time, but goalies can't be on ice captains. i mean like it wasn't really portrayed as a luongo kind of situation either.
This is one of those books where everything was just perfect to me. All of it! Mike and Lauren's history, them reconnecting, and the build to it all. Hockey. Teenage drama. Tension and angst. I loved it all. The first two books were awesome but I have to say, this is my FAVORITE book in the series so far!!!
Mike and Lauren had so many ups and downs in their relationship and I loved the build in learning the why… and that why was killer! I loved Mike, he was just so sweet and caring as he and Lauren reconnect, there was no way not to love him. Lauren was so strong and I loved how determined she was to do things on her own, even though some of those things legitimately stressed me out. She could be really stubborn and hold herself back to protect herself and I totally got why. I loved them reconnecting and Lauren letting her guard down and really open up.
I also really enjoyed Lauren connecting with Ari and Georgia because she's been pretty ice-like in the past two books. I thought they had a lot of fun scenes together that were highly entertaining. I adored the fact that there was more Nate and Becca included as well, that's just such a fun, side story and I would love to see these two get their own book.
Honestly, everything about this is made me ridiculously happy. It had a somewhat light feel with a great deal of emotion mixed in. I got teary eyed several times. I loved the writing, it really drew me in. I thought there was excellent character development also. I was just sold from the very beginning. I love how the story was laid out and the build to the amazing HEA.
This was just such a well thought out story and I couldn't put it down. I loved all the chemistry, emotion, and animosity between Mike and Lauren. I loved the 13 year old girl drama from Mike's daughter. I loved the hockey aspect and the intensity of the games. Everything drew me in. The story is excellent, I couldn’t seem to stop reading. It's a well rounded story filled with tension, heat, and humor. There were just so many wonderful moments. My head and emotions were all over the place (in a good way!). Loved every single second!!!

Oh my gosh, this book. It pulled at my heart strings. Mike and Lauren had an extremely complicated past and after two years of distance, are focused back together. While I'm not the biggest fan of flashback scenes, Bowen uses them creatively to portray Mike and Lauren's past. The flashbacks serve to illustrate the emotional defensive that Lauren puts up throughout the book. It's been a while since I've read a more emotionally satisfying reunion story.
Cute! Also made me want to re read Brooklynaire, Becca and Nate are so much fun.
Really enjoyed this hockey romance and it was amazing how a lot of took place in Long Island!! Such a fun but drama filled book and these characters were amazing to read about. No shame that I read this out of order lol
I liked this book more than I expected to. I love how we got to see past Lauren’s bitchiness (is it wrong that I sill enjoyed it when she was a lil bitchy? Some of those people deserved it). The romance was fine but what really worked for me were the characters - the main characters and secondary/side characters all felt real and like they had lives off the pages of this book. I’m starting to worry though because I am blowing through Sarina Bowen’s stuff really quickly and will be sad when I catch up and have to wait like everyone else :(

I liked this a lot. I was so happy that this book FOR ONCE didn't have any capital D Drama to distract from the actual relationship building and I liked that there wasn't any obstacle that was put in just for the sake of something getting in the way. This was a lot quieter and understated than most Sarina Bowen novels and I appreciated that.
Anyway, Beacon was a huge dum dum, and I could have used a little more of him acknowledging that. But, Lauren was great, and I did really end up getting into them and their relationship. Also, I DESPERATELY need that Nate/Becca book now, please.
Side note, I'm side-eyeing the character names in this book a little. If you're going to name Beacon's daughter Elsa, do not name her violin teacher/babysitter Hans. That's just too much Frozen for one book. It may have been a coincidence, but like.... those are not common names. No one picked up on that?

I did not like Lauren in previous books but this book really pulled everything together and made me understand why she was the way she way. I really enjoyed her story. I am looking forward to more of my Bruisers.
