I can’t believe it took me so long to read this because wow — what an emotional ride.
This book completely transported me. The Oxford setting was so vividly written, I felt like I was walking those cobblestone streets right alongside the characters. The emotional depth of the story crept up on me in the best way. There were definitely a few moments where I found myself tearing up.
It’s a story about stepping into the next chapter of life — navigating that early-thirties turning point when you’re figuring out who you want to be and what truly matters. There’s so much packed in here: past traumas, family dynamics, forgiveness, love, loss, and learning to live fully.
The characters were beautifully drawn, and their arcs hit me hard. Every emotional layer hit hard.
Absolutely four stars from me — I’m already looking forward to seeing this one on screen. Highly recommend to anyone who loves a character-driven, heartfelt story.

I got about 30% into this book and just wasn’t having a good enough time to justify continuing. I wasn’t really into the characters—the main characters were pretty dull (or bordering on annoying) and the side characters felt like caricatures instead of people. The writing was very choppy and almost disjointed, which just didn’t click with me. And then it got to a point where I felt like it was just a mashup of tropes and cliches instead of an actual book with a plot. I’m gonna watch the movie and see if I eventually want to come back to the book, but I was not feeling it for now.
