This is not my usual cup of tea, as far as books go but One for the Money really took me by surprise. I love the great character development and relationship development that the author gave us. It's full of laughs and is a nice light and fluffy read. I doubt I will read the rest of the series because I can't see a good book series continuing to be good after 9 and the reviews seem to agree with me but truly loved this book and the fashion throwback was fabulous!

This my second time reading this book, and I think I enjoyed it a lot more my second time around. Is it formulaic? Yes. Is it cliched? Yes. Does some of the plot rely on coincidence? Yes. But you know what? I enjoy Stephanie Plum as a lead character. And I like how Evanovich writes about Trenton, NJ. The author has done her research. The side characters are funny and the writing is simple and smooth. This is just a simple detective novel wrapped up in funny, colorful language. I'll definitely check out the other books in this series.

This is one of those cases where it is extremely obvious that the book was written in the nineties, because a lot of it didn’t age well. Some of the stuff that didn’t age well (particularly the fatphobia/body image aspects), I can’t tell if it was intended to be humor or if it is just a documentation of that “heroin chic” fashion that was a thing then. There are many instances of sexual harassment/sexual assault starting from the referenced past at the very beginning of the book. In fact, it almost feels like the whole book is made up that and Stephanie trying to figure out how to make money, which is the only part I found relatable and somewhat funny.
