A very long book that follows a young woman who is smart and talented and has all the ingredients to be independent and successful.
Also spotlights the fight for workers rights.
It would have been a 4.5 easily, if not for the disappointing ( infuriating?) ending.
I didn’t accompany her all this way for her to throw it all for a man!!!!!

A good story about organizing quarry workers in Colorado in 1907. Mother Jones makes a brief appearance (2) and so does King Leopold. One interesting twist, the quarry is cutting marble for confederate statues. It was a good read, though the romances were a little distracting but useful to the story.
I really loved hearing about the historical fiction part of this book. The town of Ruby, Moonstone, etc. The family's life in a work camp, her father's experience in the mines and their attempt to right their bosses wrongs. I could have done with out the love story between Sylvie and Jasper. Jeesh, he was an idiot.
Good character development. Sylvie is a badass it was a bit slow at times but I loved learning about this era of strikes and unionizing and all that came with it
This was not one of my favorite historical fiction novels, but it did teach me about a part of history I didn’t know much about.
