I started my journey with Peter and the crew earlier this year, and I must say that I absolutely loved this book. Now that the stakes are different, and we have some new and interesting creatures, I found it to be the most grounded. I’ve loved all of the books, but this one was a standing ovation. Intrigued to see what unfolds next.

These books feel like they shouldn't be taken too seriously but continue to amaze with the breadth of literature, history & knowledge they display.
Lessons in not just the concept of what constitutes human or other but also natural and unnatural. Magical or science.
There are more things in heaven and earth, Horatio, than are dreamt of in your philosophy.
Quick wit & interesting characters keep you on your toes while you ride the rollercoaster of plot that gallops along at an often dizzying speed.
Thoroughly enjoyable 🥰❤️

I absolutely love this series, and highly recommend it. Loaded with unique real locations with real bits of history, along with commentary on architecture and both the positive and negative changes to the city. As a detective mystery series, that's interesting enough; throw in a hidden subculture with practitioners of Newtonian magic and you have a world of secrets woven throughout 'the capital of the world'. At least, that's what Aaronovitch calls it, and having been born and raised in London, he says he will leave when they prise London from his cold dead fingers. He's a master storyteller using a very tangible city with a complex history as his backdrop. The characters themselves are rich with personality, and whether they're a cop we see for a few pages, a river goddess, or an American FBI agent, there's always a chance of seeing them again.
Peter Grant is an officer in the Metropolitan Police. After a case involving ghosts, Peter comes to the attention of Detective Chief Inspector Thomas Nightingale - the last officially sanctioned English Wizard. Peter becomes the first official apprentice wizard in sixty years, specializing in weird cases. He's young and has a relaxed demeanor at odds with Nightingale's posh and restrained personality. Peter brings technology and procedure to the team, and together they use magic to keep the queen's peace.
Audiobook narrator Kolba Holdbrook-Smith is immensely talented.
