Gliding through decayed decades and memories too painful to touch, BEAUTIFUL, FRIGHTENING, AND SILENT tells the story of the in-between, and the place we go when the reasons we go on living have died. Evocative prose laced with visceral imagery cuts like glass, following the intertwined tales of three lost souls and the tragedies that unite and undo them.

Grieving the loss of his wife and child, a young schoolteacher reaches beyond the bottle that has been his only comfort to the promise of connecting with the beyond, at a place so aptly named Dagger Island. Yet the caretaker of the Victorian where he rents a room is no less haunted by loss than the younger man, with regrets of his own that have not faded with time. The schoolteacher may be the only guest, yet the two men are not alone.

Read this one with the lights on.
