Apparently this was Miller highlighting a criticism of Maccarthyism. I like this. Hysterics and all.

I loved every second of this! This story dives into themes such as mass hysteria, religion, politics, corruption within church & state, and vengeance and how far some are willing to go in order to save themselves. Heresy and hearsay are dangerous in a court that is only trying to convict through theocracy, instead of holding an unbiased trial. When the minority are getting hung for speaking up, the majority will keep quiet or lie & throw blame in order to save themselves.
Interesting how communism in America is almost treated the same as witchcraft in Salem. Especially as it is hard to find solid proof of one being a communist, and it is usually only accusers who put them on trial.
I do not think John Proctor is a good man but his story of salvation and his striving to do the right thing , especially admitting to his sins in court, and then not letting them use his false confession to play a hand in anyone else’s deaths, made me appareciate his character. despite him being at the root of it all .. . I think that Abigail is just as bad, although she was still a child and obviously needed fatherly/motherly love, leading her down this path of vengeance and murder. I believe that everyone who played a role in the trials is guilty and passed judgement on others to make them feel better for their own sins.

1 star is for my favorite line (unfortunately uttered by John Proctor) about Lilacs.
can't wait to see John Proctor is the Villain
