I feel like this book skimmed over everything I wanted to see.

Beautiful

Wow What a beautiful book - It tackled a number of hard topics and in such a wonderful way. Mental health, generational trauma, grief, toxic relationships and just living day to day and pay check to pay check.
Loved it!

Wow

I read this book in one sitting and stayed up way too late with it. Wow is all I can say!

I quite enjoyed this read and identified with Oliver's grief for a sibling. My favorite character was, of course, Emery's 5-year old daughter Reese. She is so precious and funny.

I am someone who loves emotional books and this did not disappoint. You see both characters struggle but watch them come up on the other side. I will admit you fall for them so fast it’s hard to see them go through the hardships they faced.

One thing I really loved about this book was seeing Emery and Oliver grow together and separately. You not only see them form this beautiful connection together but their self growth as well. Their love for each other is like no other.

The correlation from the title of the book to the meaning behind it was truly an experience. It is something I will take away and will resonate with me. Especially after seeing Emery and Oliver face the toughest of days.

The Mixtape brought me also to a new author I cannot wait to read more of! The writing mixed with the story pulled my heart strings and made for a beautiful story.

I have to add that I loved Emery’s daughter, Reese, so much. Reese is the most adorable and witty. The dynamic between Oliver and Reese had me smiling so hard. Not to mention I definitely had a few laughs while reading this book.

Find the song in your mixtape of life

When I say this book spoke to me on a different level, I mean it. From the first chapter until the last, it held my heart in its pages. Being a single mama so many of the things Emery struggled with, I feel on a daily basis. It was easy to connect with, Emery and Oliver. I fell in love with Reese, Kelly, Michelle & Richard along the way. There are so many themes and plots running through this story, but at the heart, it's that you can only change your actions and emotions. Above everything I loved the acceptance in this book, especially between Emery and Olive. We can choose the people who matter to us and this story was the most beautiful representation of that.

The hardest truth to learn in life was that not everyone loved the same way you did.

There are books that make you think and there are books that make you *think*. Brittainy Cherry succeeds in thought-provoking, healing, spectacular stories of growth as only she can. The Mixtape brought me to tears in the prologue, laughter throughout, and healed my heart by the end. Emery and Oliver's star-crossed story is so unique and simple but profound grief brings it to a whole new level.
