Spera is a long running online comic and this graphic novel collects one of the adventures. The adventure has a cast of adventurers on a quest, and each chapter is illustrated by a different artist. The result is a sort of mixed result.

Pira and Lono are exiled princesses. They are accompanied by Yonder, who is a fire spirit that alternates between a bearded man and a large, flaming dog, Chobo, a fierce cat, and Adel a fellow adventurer. When Yonder is put under the spell of a water spirit and shrunk, the adventurers have to find a wood spirit who will help them to restore their friend.

Along with the main adventure, there are a series of shorter adventures, all done by different artists as well. The art varies in quality, as does the lettering. Some chapters are easier to read than others. It was a coherent enough series and I liked the adventure gaming touches, like ccg cards at the end of each chapter outlining a monster or creature encountered in the chapter. Overall, it was just okay. I'm not sorry I read it, but I don't feel compelled to read more in this universe.

I was given a review copy of this graphic novel by Diamond Book Distributors and Netgalley in exchange for an honest review. Thank you for letting me review this graphic novel.

The world of Spera never disappoints! Pira, Lono, Yonder, and Chobo, along with their new friend Adel, continue their adventures through the wild and woolly unknown. In volume three, you'll find monsters (of course!), lost powers, and people from Lono's past. And oh my stars, the artists are amaaaaaaaaazing!

3.5 stars. I really don't love the varying artists, especially since the styles aren't very harmonious. I do like the running story, but it sometimes feels like some of the detail is missing. still, good stories.

I liked this volume better than the first two, but it still feels incomplete and choppy. I liked most of the art styles throughout.

The continuous story helped with this volume. The two new guys were okay, I liked their mini story.

Puppy Yonder is cute.

Quick read I picked up out of order at the library. Decent art, terrible storytelling. Seriously, don't bother.

I've found this series enjoyable enough, but in the beginning I did expect it to be more cohesive and have more of a plotline. The story has been more of mini adventures and until this volume hasn't had any larger arc of a story going on. The fact that Pira's mother was the one to ursurp Lono's kingdom and kill her father has really only been background material. with the addition of the two new characaters from Lono's past I thought the story would circle around back to where they came, but it didn't. Perhaps I went in expecting a regular fantasy story of war and revenge; whereas, this story has been one of accepting that your life will change and sometimes you have to roll with the punches.

If someone is looking for a low-key adventure without the drama most YA fantasies come with today, this series thus far would be a good pick.

It's been ages since I read the first two volumes so I whipped them out to remind myself what happened before and seriously. Spera will always be worth the cost of buying a hardback despite me hating buying things on hardback.

If in Vol2 we have flashbacks of Pira's past and the Starless Queen, in Vol3 Lono's own kingdom gets a bit fleshed out in Kyle and Nole. More or less the 'antagonists' of the piece, they initially struck me as 'oh okay, two guys out for revenge', and then interaction happened, and I found out later that Lono actually fancied Nole a bit, and just. I really liked Kyle and Nole, okay.

Turn of events (what might actually constitute as a climax if you're not looking to the characters for that) MIGHT be a bit of a letdown, if you're looking for some action. A big turning point of the story happened from someone else's point of view, someone not in the vicinity when it happened, and so we only get back in the action once things calmed down. Not an issue for me, but might be an issue for other people.

Spera began as an online comic that is now on its third volume. It tells the story of two exiled princesses, Lono and Pira, who've escaped into the world of Spera. Working as adventurers, the friends and their companions, a cat, a fire spirit and Adel, go where adventure takes them! Adventure involves being trailed by members of Lono's court who blame her for betraying and abandoning her people in the face of war, and later, in trying to reignite a fire spirit.

The princesses initially seem like the typical princess and the princess who wants to defy the princess stereotypes, but there is so much more to them. My daughters and I were smitten/grossed out when the princesses attempted to eat bugs and anything else they could find like proper adventurers. Their quests play on RPGs and the entire main story is filled with a lot of quirkiness and heart. The girls and I really enjoyed reading this and think this would make a fascinating cartoon.
