I remember loving this book when I was younger, but now it feels really grindy and the end is really abrupt. Also I was super religious growing up and now I'm the opposite, so all of the god references aren't really for me. I was planning on reading the whole series but I think one is enough now.

Chapter 10-12 were the best for me. The ending was so abrupt! Like, what?!

Who finds the time anymore to return to childhood books that one knows they have read but barely remembers? Me! A young girl's journey of self exploration begins when she must step out of her role as a middle child and become the savior of her family, all while gaining confidence in herself and trying to woo sweet, sporty Calvin. Will she save her baby brother and lost father? Read this with your kids, or when you want a sweet reminder of your own childhood. This book is ageless and fun. I would definitely recommend to young readers who enjoyed the Golden Compass series.

Incredible story for kids. So imaginative and scary and lovely characters. Still feels relevant and true today. And so many things I missed the first time many many years ago.

I didn't want to see the movie without first re-reading the book, since it's been many many years since I first read it. Turns out I remembered most of it pretty well! I still had a fair amount of trouble keeping track of the differences between Mrs. Whatsit and Mrs. Who. (Mrs. Which was easier because she doesn't really materialize and seemed to be much older.) It was fascinating to read about Meg from an adult's perspective, and I definitely found the concept of the Earth as a "shadowed planet" particularly believable and relevant in light of current world events. Our world is in very great need of more light and love to burn away the darkness.

Madeleine L'Engle was a literary genius. I hope the movie stays true to the book. Oh, how I hope!
