There is a mathematical, precise order to everything in Stella Lane's life and she likes it that way, there's no problem she can't figure out and solve in a logical manner. Except, that is, for romance and especially anything sexual. When a coworker jokingly suggests she needs practice, she realizes that's not actually a bad idea. That's where Michael comes in, but of course this kind of stuff is never as simple as Stella wishes it to be. THE WEDDING DATE meets BUSINESS OR PLEASURE, with a dash of PRETTY WOMAN, this sexy, funny, and surprisingly heartwarming story will give you all the feels while also making you fan yourself, a very fun twist on a classic romcom.
I cannot wrap my head around the mid ratings on this one, I freaking LOVED this book!! As we know, I don't read blurbs so when I realized what the premise of this book was I almost choked from laughing so hard, but then it was so effectively sexy while also so endearing, I didn't want to put it down. I loved having a heroine on the autism spectrum, I don't think I've ever read about this and especially since females present autism in such a different way than how it's so often portrayed in media with men, I really loved the representation. I also appreciated that it's just a fact about her, in fact it's a large reason of why she's so successful, but it's not a hinderance or something to make someone pity her, a huge fear she has. It's a large part of what makes her so interesting and how her mind worked, making for a refreshing lead.
Also Michael is soooooooooo damn fine, this man is so hot he made me create an entirely new GR shelf to highlight the best fictional men because I was so smitten. I highly doubt men this perfect exist, but I also don't care because that's the entire point of fictional ones! I adored how this was simultaneously slow burn but also steamy as heck, it was so much more fun than I expected but also had several great twists and turns that actually surprised me. And then before I knew it I was getting emotional despite knowing it's a romcom and this'll end up fine. But proof of how cute these two are and how much I enjoyed myself.
I HIGHLY recommend to all romance fans, don't listen to the haters with poor taste, this is such a fun read, steamy, and surprisingly emotional, precisely what I want from my romance.
SPOILERS FROM HERE ON
The premise of this book being Stella believes she's 'bad at sex' because the few experiences she's had were with gross, selfish dudes who can't get their head out of their asses long enough to recognize a woman's pleasure is important so she hires a male escort to teach her was genuinely so hilarious and not at all what I expected going into this book. But I LOVED IT!!! What is with romance books creating the swooniest protagonists out of these professions that might typically make me balk, first my porn star angel Josh from THE ROOMMATE, and now escort Michael?! I mean, it's wild, but it absolutely worked for me. I especially appreciated how Michael so immediately was drawn to her not just because she's beautiful, but because of all the things she is, including the stuff that scares her. And he doesn't want to take advantage of her, but knows she wouldn't let this go and the idea of any other escort touching her makes him immediately a little possessive. Oh hell yeah, it all freaking worked. And because of the nature of this book it got SEXY so fucking fast!!! It takes awhile to get anything legit, but similar to foreplay, it lead up to the incredible climax with excellent teasing and tension, and wow wow wow, I was FANNING myself and so damn happy for my girl. But also that Michael just makes it about her and tries different things to make her more comfortable and safe, ugh, I'm obsessed with them.
I love that Stella is on the spectrum, I think it added a fresh perspective to her and allowed for more interesting conflict. Like her overstimulation moments at the club or first meeting his family. It also makes her hyper fixated on things not everyone would be, like how obsessed she is with his scent or her job, how she needs all her clothes tailored because she's sensitive to scratchy fabrics, and constantly asking questions to know more, but because she's genuinely curious and it's how she processes. And while she's petrified to tell Michael because she doesn't want him to view her as a charity case, he figures it out very quickly, especially with help from his darling cousin. Also of course Michael has a brother/cousin (I don't remember which, but a close family member) who's also autistic so not only is he perfect with her, but it never makes him think lesser. In fact 90% of their conflict is both of them thinking the other couldn't possibly want them. Stella because she's so inexperienced and can't imagine why Michael would want her and Michael because Stella is so accomplished and wonderful, he thinks his past will never let her take a relationship with him seriously. They're both morons, but it's at least a compelling, understandable drama vs the constant miscommunication issues of most other books.
The twists in general were more interesting than a lot of other books I've read! Like Michael's gross ex-client, who's a rich older woman obsessed with him, would be a huge issue in another book. Especially when we find out later she's actually Philip's (Stella's gross coworker's) mom, that made me GASP out loud!! And while she makes Stella jealous and is horrible, Stella is more worried for Michael and it's more how much her dad looks down on Michael that freaks him out and causes their 'break up' than the other stuff. Also their breakup devastated me even if understandable. On top of their main disconnect said above, Michael has a shit ton of daddy issues due to his father being a huge cheater that scammed his mom out of her money and left them all high and dry. He told Michael he'd only ever be good for his looks so he may as well use that and Michael gave up his fashion dreams to take care of his mom when she got sick. The man is an ANGEL, but he's literally put all his dreams on hold and sold his body because he can't imagine anyone would ever want him for more and is petrified of turning out like his dad. It's heartbreaking, but the rest of his family is so amazing and I love how easily they rallied into place around him and made him realize how amazing he is and how perfect he is with Stella. Also that literally all of them knew they were in love before they did, I'll aways be a sucker for that trope. And it led to him punching out Philip and wooing Stella back, and that's all I wanted. Philip is clearly very book smart and good for Stella on paper, but is a total piece of shit and only gets interested in her once she's happy with Michael and doesn't want him. He even forcibly kisses her and basically tells her no one else would ever want her with her 'issues', I hate that fucker. I knew he sucked, but he was so much worse than I thought he would be so I was SO glad he got punched and that Stella is like, 'we're not dating, we went on one date and I'm never doing that again', fuck off, hell yeah.
But mainly I could just swoon over Michael all day. Half of his body is covered in a sexy ass Japanese dragon tattoo?!! Mama mia, also he's a half-Asian dream boat that sews, cooks, does martial arts for fun, and of course is a wizard in bed?! But also an insane gentleman, ugh, I just loved him. I loved watching them fall in love with every milestone they took together. He's incredibly patient, empathetic, observant, and a dream, I was just cheesing and kicking my feet throughout this book, just chef's kiss. Maybe I had low expectations or was just in a great mood, but I just didn't see this coming at all and it blew me away. I loved these two crazy kids and thought this was such a surprising gem.
I'm curious about the sequels. I'm assuming they're of other characters in this world which quite excites me as I really loved the side characters as well, especially all of Michael's family. Here's hoping the magic continues in them, whenever I read them some day, but as of now I'm just so pleased that I read this one and definitely recommend.

Fun, lighthearted romance novel. Listened to this on audiobook and it kept me entertained!
I liked it. Quite juvenile but has many steamy sex scenes. Quick fluffy read. but representation matters and it addresses autism/asperger's and gives insight to it.

Good book. Liked how their relationship progressed but felt a bit quick to me idk.
Loved the beginning and loved the end. The middle dragged a bit. Too much of the "I'm not good enough" for this person stuff going on foe me. I know there has to be some angst. but this one went a little far for me. But it was cute and fluffy and that was what I was looking for in this read.
Me ha gustado mucho la experiencia de escucharlo en esta ocasión.
La historia es muy bonita y me sigue gustando mucho
