Made me absolutely weep, though the ending left me wanting.... Something. Didn't seem as heartfelt as the rest of the book.

I ate this one up! Just a delightful storyteller ❤️

I liked this book. It was a different perspective to most princess stories, and it was quite refreshing!

What would you do if you could swap places with someone?

The princess in this book wants to not be a princess but live a more simple life and a Lady if the Court wants to be a princess. Swapping would make it perfect, right?!

Thing is, if you are used to seeing one way of life, it can be a culture shock to see another way of life, or it could be more boring than you realised.

There could have been more details about some of the characters, but the vagueness of their past could be down to their personal choice not to divulge and keep that hidden.

The book describes the themes as:
Betrayal
Injustice
Sorcery
Geese (if you've been around geese, then you'll know why this is listed!)

Trigger warnings:
Domestic abuse
Sexual assault
Public executions
slow-paced
Plot or Character Driven: Plot
Strong character development: No

There are the bone of a good story buried somethere in Thorn. The author did themself a disservice by forcing that story into the framework of The Goose Girl. Plot events happened because they happened in the fairy tale, not because there was any reason for them in the plot. And the interesting things that could have happened in the story (why do we never see any action about the scary-sounding snatchers?) never do because they didn't happen in the fairy tale.

It was actually pretty good and kept my attention. But there were a couple of deaths that I could see coming a mile away and I'm tired of book characters dying just to teach the main character a lesson. It's like there are no life lessons or stakes in books anymore unless something is killed. Right now this could be a me problem. The real world sucks and I find it hard to escape when the book has such depressing events.

The fairy tale this is based on is an odd one. Khanani did an amazing job of holding to its plot, while adding much depth.
