Grace's whole world changed the moment she stepped inside that academy. She knows that there's nothing that's right about the academy or any of the students in attendance. And here's Grace, this mortal girl among gods or monsters, she still can't decide which one of these factions the students fit into, and now that includes Grace. That's if she even belongs to one of the factions at all. All she knows is that the one thing that unites all the students together is that they all hate her.
And then there's Jaxon Vega. He's a vampire with more than one deadly secret and he hasn't felt anything in over a hundred years. But, for some reason, there's something about him that just calls to Grace, maybe something that's broken in him that somehow might fit with what's broken in her.
And that could very well spell death for all of them.
The thing is, Jaxon walled himself off for a good reason. And now there was someone who wanted to wake that sleeping monster, and Grace was wondering if she was brought here intentionally – as the bait.
Crave is the 1st book in the Crave series by Tracey Wolff. I found Crave to be like if Twilight grew up to be this witty, sophisticated feminist who has this flair for fun and a simmering sexual tension.
Grace's life is turned upside down after her parents are killed in a tragic accident. Suddenly she finds herself having to move from San Diego to Alaska. Her uncle, her new guardian, is the head of Katmere Academy, a fancy prep school in a remote Alaskan town. And moving to Alaska itself is a shock to Grace but the prep school that's in an actual castle, is an even bigger shock. And what's more, there isn't a single person in the school who likes her, everyone instantly dislikes Grace for reasons she can't understand.
Soon after her arrival at Katmere Grace finds that she's caught the eye of Jaxon Vega, and this guy is the hottest guy that she's ever seen in her life. And what's more, he's surrounded by this group of bodeful, attractive guys, and Grace finds herself mesmerized by all of them, Jaxon most of all. Jaxon breaks that spell quickly telling Grace that she is in dire jeopardy and that Grace really shouldn't have ever come to Katmere Academy.
But, Grace sees something in Jaxon that no matter how hard she tries, she just can't shake it, and even though he had tried to warn her off, Grace knows that he can feel whatever this is too. Grace suffers a series of near-death experiences and every time she finds that Jaxon is rescuing her every time, and suddenly Grace starts to think Jaxon is right, she should never have come to Katmere Academy and now she was this pawn in a battle that she never asked to be a part of, wanted to be a part of, or even knows how it started.
Slowly we watch as the relationship between Grace and Jaxon starts to intensify, and suddenly Grace has to make a choice: does Grace go back to San Diego, a city where she'll be safe and away from the raging battle, or does Grace possibly give everything up for Jaxon – and this includes her very life. Grace doesn't know anything about the world of vampires, dragons, werewolves, witches, and shapeshifters, and yet Grace finds she's in the middle of this battle that she doesn't understand.
I first fell in love with the stunning world of Katmere Academy before I fell in love with any of the characters. I had already met Grace and Jaxon but, it was Katmere that really drew me in before the characters. Then Grace and Jaxon started to pull at me and my heart.
Through the pages of the book, I was left gasping and pleading through the romance, the conflict, and all the plot twists that Tracey masterfully wove into this book. There were moments that I would find myself giggling, smiling, and swooning over the text exchanges that were included, the witty dialogue between all the characters had me giggling at moments.
And as you read, one of the factions, dragon, witch, vampire, or werewolf, will gain your loyalty and you'll devote yourself to backing that faction through this book.
You'll find your heart skipping a beat, soaring through the clouds, and even sinking in the mud for Jaxon along with his gaze and all his charm. And you'll see all the strength, smarts, and the cautious vulnerabilities of Grace our beautiful FMC.
I am so thankful that Tracey Wolff didn't make her vampires sparkle (that was something that I hated so much. Ugh!) We didn't get any earnest love-struck werewolves, or at least not yet, hopefully it stays that way. What we do get is that there are lots of characters to fall in love with and they are just as hot. And that is for both male and female characters. (So sue me, I'm bi, I fall in love with both sex's of characters.)
The ending of this book, that just blew me away. The ending of this book was absolutely amazing and left me mind-blown.
Even though this book does remind me of Twilight and there are elements of Twilight in the beginning, Crave does find its own stride and becomes its own book and it is far from Twilight by the end and I do recommend it. Get ready to travel to Alaska and enter into Katmere Academy where nothing is as it seems. Tracey Wolff has done a great job in writing this book and she has a phenomenal writing style and a great voice.

Mannn this book truly had no plot😭😭 I can’t count how many times I cringed on only two hands, and yet I still devoured this book… I’m ashamed but also hey, at least I’m reading again
15 hours of listening. I knew the book would be easy reading/book candy/vampires, BUT, the writing was NOT good and the plot/characters lacked depth. I felt like I was reading a Twilight novel (which once upon a time I enjoyed), but without the depth needed. I didn't care about the characters or the plot. Once I had committed to listening (long road trip, anybody?), I felt I had to finish. Not worth the read, sadly.
Slow and predictable start but the ending really pulled me in.
