I almost never DNF a book, but after 170 pages of the cringiest stuff I’ve read in a long time, I couldn’t do it anymore. This is coming from someone who loved teenage vampire books when I was actually a teenager. I’ll probably read a synopsis to find out what happens because on top of being incredibly boring and me hating all of the characters, I’m 1/3 through the book and don’t even know this is a supernatural book.
I love brooding and angst, but the main characters were so bland and the writing was so cringe-inducing that I hated all of it. I just can’t.

Well that was... how do I say this nicely... interesting? Yeah, interesting is the best word I can think of. I did not enjoy this book at all. Yes, I did finish it, and happy I did, and I'm happy it's over. Get ready, it's about to become a ruthless review.
Was it utterly horrible? No. Then why the bad rating, I hear you ask? Well, if I could describe this book in one word, it would be cringe. Every word that came out of Grace's mouth was an attempt at being witty or sensitive but it sounded just... cringey? At least it made me laugh, hence the half star. Second hand embarrassment is never a good thing to have but at least it's funny. I lost it at 'the hottest guys in school are obsessed with you'... people actually say that?? Also she was there for 3 days and she swore she was in love with a guy who treats her like crap, classic love story right? I rolled my eyes so hard and so many times I now know what my brain looks like (thank you Grace).
As for the plot in itself, it was just so slow. It took Grace 300 pages to figure out what was obvious from the beginning, and the way she handled it... miss girl, no one would react the way you did, at least make it believable. And even after that, the story still didn't go anywhere. It only really got there in the last 100 pages or so, and can I remind you, this book is over 500 pages? EXCRUCIATINGLY SLOW.
I did like Tracy's writing style. It reads easy, it reads fast. I think this is her debut novel (don't come at me if it's not), so that is actually really impressive.
So yeah, overall this was really a miss for me. I don't know if the sequels are any better, I don't know if I'll ever pick them up. I might need some convincing for that.

DNF
I didn't have high hopes for this. I thought it's going to be a light and fun vampire romance and a not-so-subtle rip-off of Twilight. And maybe it is a fun read later on (it's definitely a Twilight rip-off), but I just couldn't get past the ridiculousness of the writing in this. It reads like a Wattpad fanfic, and not a good one. I listened to the first five chapters on audio and the main heroine sound like the most annoying teenager. She starts every second sentence with "I mean..." or "Like.." and every guy is "Hot AF" and she's not like other girls because she's traumatized. She sounds so stupid and then she quotes Shakespear because, of course, she does. It's just not for me. A 13-year-old version of me might have liked this but my adult ass just cringed and laughed.
