I didn’t bother reading the last section of this book because...well. Would you? I had been reading New 52s Nightwing and the death in the family arc was completely spoiled for me. But that might be a good thing, otherwise this could have been a lot more emotionally exhausting than it was.

It’s not the best Batman book and its really not the best Morrison book, but it’s an important story.

Batman Incorporated vol 2 Gotham’s most wanted marks the end of Grant Morrison’s run. It’s a punchy classic comic book plot of the Dark Detective against the devils daughter. And it’s zany and over the top in all the right ways. With great art by Chris Burnham and great plotting by Grant Morrison soon with good character work.

It relies on years of continuity and the rest of the run as a whole to act as the send off. And is it a great send off? Yeah it’s very good there. It uses the changing perspectives that the run has so often relied on to good affect to follow the action.

Batman loses everything as leviathan closes in around him. And Talia aims to destroy everything he’s ever cared about.

To sum up why I like this volume and the run as a whole:

“We all have our own ways of dealing with grief. I’ve had my suspicions about Bruce Wayne and Batman for a long time, but I keep them to myself. All I really need to know is this: Batman always comes back bigger and better, shiny and new. Batman never dies. It never ends. It probably never will.”

4 stars.

The Batman Incorporated special isn’t great and a weak edition to this trade. But it’s a worthy send off to the run that has Batman R.I.P in it.

This series really surprised me. Has premise I wasn’t wanting but the dark nature of the material made up for it. Really enjoyed it.

Now I've finally read what I should have read before Batman & Robin. It was....slightly underwhelming.

There is a ton of stuff going on with a ton of characters that frankly, I couldn't care less about. Some of them look so similar that I just stopped trying to tell them apart. Also, Damian literally looks like a three year old. Why is he so short?

Everything's jumping around, you barely get a moment to process what has actually happened and then more bouncing until finally you're done. Or at least you think you are until you find you have some stories (or 'case files') of Jiro and Black Canary, The Knight, Nightrunner, El Gaucho & Raven Red. And like I said before, I couldn't really care less. Jiro's were strange, but kind of fun and The Knight was really sad following the events of Batman Incorporated, Volume 1, but the others we all just filler.

Had this not been part of a story line I was following I don't think I would have read it. Who am I kidding? Of course I would have read it and probably been more disappointed than I am now. *sad face*
