Honestly my opinion of this book is "...meh?" And "so thats it?" I read this for class, so. But even beyond that its just a bit... silly. Honestly.

Sorry Angela, times have moved on. I didnt find this feminist, i didnt find this darkly gothic and extroadinary retellings or refindings of fairy tales. Most of them just read as Baby's first Dark Deviantart Post and not in a good way.

I laughed at snow child. Im sorry. But its ridiculous. I knew what was going to happen from the moment I read the first page. Ive seen dark retellings of snow white done so much better. With the exact same "dark" premise too. Courting mr Lyon was also just, the fairy tale, again?

I know it was written in the 70s but its really essentialist and cissexist which doesnt help the  fact that it really hinges on being something shocking and feminist for its retellings. It might be my grannys fairytale, but it isnt mine.
The themes of virginity and periods and bleeding just got a bit much by the end.

Added to that, its a really *white* cissexist feminism which got really grating agter the fifth instance of me reading a phrase that just screamed colonialist British.
Not a good look. Id had the same problem with the other Carter I had to read: Nights at the Circus. So at least this time a whole third of the book wasnt dedicated to it?
