This would be a good book to read in my hand rather than an audiobook. The short stories are sometimes vivd, sometimes blurry and I dont know how to process them sometimes. There were also a lot of repitition in words and sentences that caught me off guard if I accidentally rewinded. But maybe for emphasis. There was a lot in self perservation because people didn't care about native folks. There was a lot of sadness and anger, aggression and stubborness. Refusal to converse unless absolutely necessary is also something that I do. I think this self-defense is definitely valid. It is a privilege and luxury to be able to talk to other people at will. I think that therapy is100% white saviorism but with the front of women's work. Anyway /: I was trying to relisten but @@ maybe next time.
Epigraph chapter - is the juice. I liked it so far and this is where I'm at. Motherhood, survival, and what does being alive mean? I wish i had the words in front of me. maybe we should throw a bomb at the pipelines and telescopes because i hate it there. i hate all of them. >:(

I have a difficult time getting into short stories, especially when there are other formats like songs included… that said, this collection holds some really powerful writing. My favourite story was hands-down nogojiwanong.

“You are the listener; your job is to listen.”
An absolutely enthralling audio performance and generous work. Listening to this book added the remarkable opportunity to hear the spoken Anishinaabemowin. The images evoked in the listening through this collection of stories and poems are poignant, direct and often flit between laughter and pain in a way that is very emotionally full. I found the use of repetition particularly effective in this audiobook performance. Islands of Decolonial Love is very rich for discussion, but I felt a real quiet after listening. The final section of the book creates such a satisfying tonal finish that I will definitely be thinking about it for a long time. Thank you!
