This was interesting. It was at some points too poetic for what I like to read, but the writing was beautiful regardless. I thought the second half of the collection was overall stronger, but I would like to revisit this someday and see if maybe I just needed time to get into the writing style.

This book blurs fiction and non-fiction so well. It feels like a deeply personal piece and peace, in both senses of the word, when you read it. Definitely recommend it for its artistic craft and to encounter the voice n stories from an Indigenous writer.

dark emotional hopeful reflective fast-paced

Simpson can write!! This collection of stories and songs is imaginative and hopeful, I loved the worlds she was able to create within tiny page counts, each so vivid you’d think each was its own novel. I think I’ll probably have to keep returning to this one just because each story is packed with meaning and I definitely didn’t even scratch the surface with this first pass through!
