Meh. Not bad but I don't really care what happens next.
Not vibing with the writing, lots of telling. Characters are a bit flat and unmemorable.

I appreciate that we got insight into how mermaids have sex

I was so close to dnf-ing once the pirates became vampires but I was encouraged to finish it and I suppose I’m glad I did?

I didn’t like Maren at all - the hypocritical “yOu’RE a MoNsTEr” when she’s eats a literal heart on page wasn’t fun or interesting. Part of me wants to read the second book just to see if the sister is as poorly developed as Maren but that would mean giving this author more of my time and frankly, there are instruction manuals on my counter worth more of my attention than a priest vampire pirate stringing up and assaulting a woman over and over again until she “falls in love with him”

I liked the writing style and I liked the concept of a mashup between Little Mermaid and Pirates of the Caribbean (I’m a sucker for a good pirate). But I feel like it got a little repetitive sometimes (especially the smut scenes) and I found myself skipping over pages until it got interesting with new material again. Ending was cute enough but it wasn’t like I didn’t see that coming. Cute little wrap-up but a little lackluster. I’ll definitely give this author another try though because the detail in each scene was great. Just probably won’t be the second book to this one. I didn’t hate it but I also wasn’t super in love with the story to where I would ever read it again. It was a fun read for the time being but some parts were rough to get through and motivate myself to read.
