Aside from some sort of interesting sex scenes, this book is where things start to go downhill. We get into the predictable patterns of Ayla's tremendous insecurities and the utter lack of humor in anything.

Ok, I loved the other books, but... JONDALAR WAS A LITTLE *ITCH IN THIS BOOK. Seriously, actually, they both were. I HATE misunderstandings that exist due to character and writer stupidity... if you do too, don't waste your time.

Oh, I'm still hooked, and I'm still going to read the next book eagerly... but I'm PISSED.

I loved Jondalar in book two, but I kinda wish Ayla had mated Ranec in this and Jondalar had gotten gored by a mammoth........ Maybe he'll improve in book four (good lawd, PLEASE).

I always love this world, this story and these characters, but there's something from this book that stuck from all those years ago when I first read it and that was (especially) Jondalar's stupidness, to put it that way? One good conversation halfway the book and most of the drama wouldn't have happened and that's not one of my favourite plot drivers. Still... I can't give this less than four stars, because I just love this book.
