This book means a lot to me. Retelling ancient stories from the women's perspective is such a heartbreaking and important task and I am thankful for all the different authors that have made it they're quest to show the world how terribly mistreated women have been for centuries.
As an afab person I feel and understand the struggles that Ariadne and Phaedra face to a certain extent and it makes this book a very painful and heartbreaking read.
I felt like the pacing was a little slow at times but I had a really good time reading this and especially the ending solidified that feeling.
Generally I book that I would recommend to any lovers of ancient greek mythology.

It took me 7 hours and 21 minutes to read this over the course of three days (I took a  break part way through). This book is much like Cerci in its content and presentation, but deals with a very different set of Greek myths, and follows a mortal perspective throughout. For me the tragedy shines more so based on the emotional pain of the characters rather than the actions they see or experience (although that is one of the major cause of their trauma).

I feel like this was risky given the success that Madeline Miller has with the greek mythology retellings and I don't really think it paid off. There were some interesting ideas here, but I never really felt compelled to continue the story and I had a hard time caring about the characters all that much. The little connection Ariadne had with Perceus at the end felt a little out if left field since this was literally the first time they'd met.
