An odd, dark, occasionally comedic coming-of-age story, following the life of Natsuki, who grows up with a rough childhood, and her difficulties living in a society that expects one to conform to what is "normal". Resonated with her struggles with the inherent societal pressure (repeated by family ad nauseum), to follow the traditional trajectory of settle down, have kids, work forever, don't complain. Veers off into a surprising mix of madness and tenderness in the final act, that I'm not quite sure where to place this book. Overall, an easy, wild ride that's worth a shot if wanting something out of left field.

i hated this - i regret not dnf’ing.

it made me incredibly uncomfortable, i hated each and every character, and the writing was, in my opinion, awful. maybe it was the translation, but the dialogue was stilted and the language was dry, simplistic, and repetitive.

i don’t recommend this book to anyone, but if you choose to read it definitely check content warnings. i’ve read my fair share of disturbing books but this was irredeemably gross.

my least favourite read of the year thus far - hugely disappointing.
